What I Learned in Business School
When I started my MBA education at Goizueta, I had several things I wanted to learn: business strategy, how to compete internationally, accounting, corporate finance and valuations, among many other subjects.

Why do firms engage in social business? Is it for PR, because of overzealous CEOs, due to a new cost to do business, just a fad … or is something bigger going on?
Like most working professionals, I start pretty much every day with a warm cup of coffee. When I reach for a K-cup in the office break room or purchase beans or order a brewed cup of coffee, I’m usually focused on my forthcoming coffee-drinking experience.
Over winter break, I participated in an international colloquium sponsored by Social Enterprise @ Goizueta. Professor Peter Roberts led 20 Evening MBA students through Guatemala and El Salvador to learn about social entrepreneurship and specialty coffee in these countries.
Now that I’m more than halfway through my courses for the EvMBA Program, I’m realizing how little time I have left to take advantage of the countless networking and educational opportunities that Goizueta offers.

I’ll admit it took me over a year to work up the courage to sign up for this training. It is totally out of my comfort zone, representing a perfect example of why I applied to the MBA program: to “dive head-first” into the unknown, the ambiguous and the uncomfortable, in order to grow personally and professionally.
On an early morning in late October, several students, faculty and staff gathered in the cold and rain to put their leadership skills to the test. However, the inclement weather was not going to hinder our successful completion of the 15th Leader’s Reaction Course.
The Goizueta Evening MBA Leadership Retreat at Château Élan will always stand out when I think back on my Emory EvMBA experience.
